International Drivers License Alaska

I thought I was all set to stand my ground with the police when stopped at a checkpoint, but after arguing for awhile I realized the police were right that my AAA International Permit didn't have the stamp required for motorcycles, even though I possess a valid motorcycle endorsement on my home US drivers license. The AAA office made an error.

I'm going to be in for over a year, and really need that corrected because I'm going to be riding motorcycles all the time, and I don't want to have to pay fines everyday for something I shouldn't have to. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get that stamp corrected? The status of an IDP to be acceptable in Thailand without being accompanied by the Home Driving Licence on which it is based is confused. IDPs without a photo and English translation were agreed under the 1949 Convention on Road Traffic and was agreed to and ratified by Thailand (among other countries). The subsequent Convention amended the IDP to provide for it to be accepted so long as there was a picture of the driver and an English translation. That Convention was ratified by 72 countries which DID NOT include Thailand who, it is said agreed to the Convention but did not ratify it by passing it into Thai Law. One source for this If anyone has access to a link to where it has been passed into Thai Road Traffic law would be appreciated. 'The International Driving Permit (IDP) is a document that provides important information from your driver’s license in eleven different languages, including English. This document came into existence by virtue of a treaty signed in 1949 by the and other foreign countries. As an official document, the IDP is recognized in over 150 countries today. Carried in conjunction with a regular drivers license, the IDP can help break down language barriers when traveling in non-English speaking countries. In addition, the IDP provides an additional source of identification. The IDP does not hold any powers of its own apart from your drivers license, and therefore, you do not have a separate driving record with an IDP.

The IDP is valid only when carried in conjunction with and acts as a translation of a drivers license.'
